What is the Lonely Superhero movie about, and is it a real movie? Watch the movie preview and get the inside scoop from the Director's commentary.
Green Screens are the go-to tool for Flying VFX(visual effects). Here you will see my daughter, Luci, helping me with the filing while I lay across a stool for a primary flying effect.
The levitation effect was my most challenging effect. The green screen didn't work for two reasons: first, the lighting in a studio didn't line up with the lighting outside...different kelvin (color temperatures). Second, to get the proper camera angle of looking upward, you can't get that in a studio, so I had to resort to using just an old-fashion ladder. When not using a green screen, you lose the benefit of "keying" out the background, so rotoscoping is necessary, which is highly time-consuming.
The actress had a hard time trying not to laugh at times when filming. But in the end, she did a great job following the director's (dad's) request for each scene.
Special thanks to Jen and Matt Brizendine for letting us spend several days filming on their farm, even inside their house! Fun Fact, every one of those chickens has a name. Please don't ask me what their names are. I'm good with just calling them chickens.
Here is some drone footage of the surrounding area, located in Crestwood, Ky. The farm house where we filmed is over 150 years old.
Believe it or not, the cup effect was not done entirely with VFX software. We ended up using a good old-fashioned fishing line to pull the cup towards my hand. My son is hiding out of camera view behind the wall holding the fishing line. As I'm yawning, I'm covering my mouth and saying "now" as I reach out for the cup. My son, Noah, pulls on the fishing line, pulling the cup to my hand. I had to use some minor VFX techniques to remove the line in the video.
Telling a story through film takes an eye for camera angles, proper composition, and color grading to get that cinematic look. I am thankful that there are people out there willing to help anyone learn the art of filmmaking in the never-ending pursuit to master their craft.
I want to give Casey Faris, Bernd Klimm, Anthony Gallo, Paul Xavier, and Jamie Fenn a massive thank you for their contributions to the content creator community.
These guys freely share a fantastic amount of expertise in film, editing, VFX, & content creation.
